Hurricane Season Charity Alerts

Although I put out an alert last month on charitable donations, I am once again writing this month on the same topic since Hurricane Sandy has left a trail of devastation. Although charity scams have been around for a long time, they take center stage right after a disaster has struck, such as fires, tornados, tsunamis and most recently a hurricane. These are the times that thieves like to play upon people's emotions.

Assessor

Value all real and personal property within Pueblo County for tax purposes, and maintains, keeps, and gathers all property records in Pueblo County (ownership, legals, lot sizes, etc).


Board of Pueblo County Commissioners

The Board of Pueblo County Commissioners is elected by voters to represent three individual districts within Pueblo County. The board serves as the administrative and policy-setting authority of Pueblo County and provides services outlined in the Constitution of the State of Colorado, including approving an annual balanced budget, overseeing the provision of government services, land use management, engineering/public works, roads and bridges, housing and human services, veterans, and social services.


Budget & Finance

The mission of the department is to develop an annual financial plan for Pueblo County, monitor actual performance against budget goals throughout the year, and maintain a governmental accounting and financial reporting system.


Clerk and Recorder

The Clerk and Recorder is responsible for recording deeds, registering automobiles, issuing marriage licenses, registering voters, administering elections and maintaining records for the Board. The Clerk and Recorder's Office is made up of several divisions, which includes Motor Vehicle, Elections, Recording, Liquor Licensing and Clerk to the Board.


Coroner

The Pueblo County Coroner's Office is headed by James Kramer MPAS, PA-C Diplomat of the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigation. He has been Coroner since November 1977.


Correctional Services

It is the mission of the Correctional Services office to offer high-level planning and administrative services in the areas of Community Corrections, Alternatives to Incarceration, and jail overcrowding relief in order to ensure the safety of the citizens of Pueblo County and to ensure that tax dollars are wisely spent in these areas.


County Attorney

The County Attorney is a County Officer created by the Colorado Constitution. By State Statute the County Attorney is appointed by the Board of County Commissioners to provide civil legal services for the Board of County Commissioners, the County’s Elected Offices and Departments as well as other entities as assigned by the Board of County Commissioners.

District Attorney - Tenth Judicial District

The District Attorney's office represents the People's interests in prosecuting criminal cases, seeking justice for victims, and advocating measures to reduce criminal behavior in our community. (Civil cases do not normally involve the DA's office unless there is evidence of criminal activity, such as fraud or extortion.)


Economic Development

The Office of Economic Development administers the Pueblo Urban Enterprise Zone and the Revolving Loan Program . The office also acts as a liaison between the public and private sectors, which are involved with economic development in the community.


Facilities

30-11-104 C.R.S. mandates that the County, at its own expense, shall provide a suitable courthouse, a sufficient jail and other necessary County buildings and keep them in repair.


Fleet Management

The Fleet Management Department is the vehicle and equipment service and repair entity for Pueblo County. The department has 14 full time employees and operates from two locations: 1107 N. Main Street- the central office, and 33601 United Avenue - located at Pueblo County’s Road and Bridge facility.


Housing and Human Services

Responsible for the provision of housing and human services to the citizens or Pueblo County and several surrounding counties, who qualify for Federal grant programs which we administer, or who receive benefits from human service programs or services which we monitor on behalf of Pueblo County.


Human Resources

The Human Resources Department provides personnel and benefits services to all County Departments and Elected Offices. Services include recruitment, selection and orientation; compensation and benefits; position classification; training; employee recognition; and a variety of other employee-related programs.

The Human Resources Department promotes diversity and oversees human resource programs and systems, including employee benefits, job evaluation and compensation, workers compensation, recruitment and selection, consulting and training, and personnel policy development and interpretation for the Pueblo City-County Health Department.

Information Technology

The Information Technology department is an internal administrative department, which exists to provide technology tools, and services that directly support and /or augment the services delivery of the Elected Offices and other mandated County functions and duties.

Planning and Development

This Department’s responsibility includes both current and long-range planning activities as well as zoning activities.


Public Works

Public Works is responsible for the maintenance and improvement of the County’s transportation infrastructure, parks, buildings, grounds, and facilities pursuant to federal, state and local laws and in keeping with the community’s priorities and needs. Services include road grading, patching, reconstruction, drainage ditch cleaning, weed mowing and management, snow plowing, parks maintenance and improvement, and building maintenance and improvement.

Pueblo County Geographic Information Systems

GIS information encompasses practically every aspect of daily life. As more of our world is modeled with GIS, the amount of information compiled grows exponentially. Consequently, it is important that GIS data is properly organized to allow people to efficiently make use of this information.

Pueblo County's numerous GIS data layers are organized thematically, based upon guidelines from the Federal Geographic Data Committee and modified slightly to meet Pueblo County's needs.


Purchasing

The Purchasing Department exists to establish consistent, fair and equitable procurement procedures within Pueblo County.


Retirement

The purpose of the Retirement Department is to assure the steady and healthy growth of the Retirement Funds, which will in turn enable the Pueblo County Retirement Plan to continue to be an outstanding retirement program, capable of providing adequate income to retiring County employees, making their retirement years secure, comfortable and enjoyable. 


Sheriff

The Sheriff’s Office mission is three fold. The agency is responsible for law enforcement, detention of criminal offenders, and all-hazards emergency management in Pueblo County. The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office, under the guidance of Sheriff Kirk M Taylor, focuses its effort on accomplishing their mission with the highest level of safety, security, and respect for both citizens and guests of Pueblo County.


Social Services

Provides protective services to children and adults, income maintenance, medical and food assistance to eligible individuals and families, and self-sufficiency services to assistance recipients.


Surveyor

The Pueblo County Surveyor is responsible for reviewing plats deposited by private surveyors and maintaining them on file. The surveyor also investigates boundary disputes and road rights-of-way.

The office also is responsible for surveying county-owned properties when a need arises.


Treasurer

The Treasurer's Office is responsible for the collection of all real estate, personal property, manufactured housing and state assessed taxes. We are located on the first floor of the County Courthouse, at 215 W. 10th St, Pueblo, CO 81003.
